At any one time Halstar is working with up to a dozen artists who have books in the course of production. Each artist will have different reasons for wishing to have their work published in book form. Some, aspiring to further promote their work beyond the scope of a gallery catalogue, see the obvious advantages in presenting their work to wider audience through sales in bookshops, and the world-wide shop front now offered through the internet. Others see a book as an opportunity to showcase recent work, and as a direct marketing tool through which they look to substantiate reputations and prices. In many instances the launch of their book is directly linked to an upcoming exhibition.

As a record, a permanent ‘retrospective’, our artists appreciate that there is nothing quite so spectacular, or long-lasting, as a book – a tribute to a lifetime’s work and an enduring keepsake valued by patrons and collectors. Allied to these advantages, the existence of a high quality book stimulates media interest and provides promotion well beyond most comparable marketing, which endures over time like no other. Many of our art books enjoy steady enquiries and sales years after first publication. Artists repeatedly tell us how delighted they are both with their books and the effect on their profile and sales. Frequently they, or their galleries, benefit directly by purchasing quantities of books at trade prices to sell on to the public, or to offer as an incentive towards sales of their artworks. Royalties from book sales are an additional benefit. Whatever their motivation, artists can be sure that Halstar will produce a book of the highest quality.

Halstar has its own special identity within the Halsgrove Group, but draws upon the Group's unique experience in specialist areas of trade publishing and extensive resources as one of the few significant UK publishers maintaining exclusive control over sales, marketing, warehousing and distribution. Based at our fifteen thousand square feet Somerset distribution centre, the imprint is led by publishers with a wealth of experience in art publishing, supported by our talented in-house design team. We combine all of these elements with an established position within the book trade and extensive off and online marketing to ensure success for each title.
